all those chat lines

I got hooked up with my telespace, and am amazed to find out how many chat lines there are. I learned about them through others on there. I'm surprised the phone companies haven't limited number of calls and minutes on those things. There ar folks who are on there all day long. I like the groups and talking to individuals on telespace; the main board is too rough for me. Why so many chat lines is my question.

Those things freak me out. Anyone that has time to spend on those things must have way too much free time.

The chat lines can be extremely addicting, just like anything else. Lol I can say that from personal experience, although now there is only one that I check on occasionally. Telespace was one I never really got hooked on though; I continuously forgot to check my box, and after having 2 or 3 of them removed due to not logging in for months, I decided not to create another one.

Some phone companies actually did prevent people from calling specific chat lines, but I don't know if that's a problem now. I know it was an issue several years ago, and I'm sure it's because of the people who literally spend hours on end logged in. With many phone companies, "unlimited" basically means you have to abide by their fair usage policy.

Hmm, never heard of them.

Heard of them, but not really used them. Well, hmmm. I wonder if eVoice was considered a chat line? It existed in the very late 90's and 2000's. But it was mostly a voice-mail system, you couldn't live chat with people. That's the closest thing to a chat line I've ever done. I used TellMe, but never any of the extensions on it.

I am on mytelespace too. There a is another line i check sometimes but mytelespace i go on there everyday. I have used a couple of others but one is not around anymore and the other one i got bored with it because it was for another part of the country.

I haven't been on a chatline for years. I know they can be bad when people abuse them, but for someone who does not get out a lot and does not have a lot of social interaction I think they are ok. They just should never replace socializing with people face to face. I know someone who would much rather sit at home on a chatline than go out for dinner or something. Lame Oh!

I used to go on conversation station. It was a chat line formally known as talk shop back in the day. The people I met on there are your average mix..some nice, fun to talk to and interesting conversation. Others are creepy, hit on anything that sounds good to them..etc. But honestly, I'd choose dinner over a chat line any day! :)
I'm not sure why there are so many lines. Maybe differing interests? So they clame...hmm

I've been wondering recently if chat lines are as popular as they used to be. Back when I first started calling them, the primary means for voice chatting to someone was a telephone. Now, with social networking, Skype, and the many apps out there that allow us to make free or cheap calls, I wonder if people still use the chat lines. I have no intentions of creating accounts on any of them to find out though.

well i am sure they are not as popular as they were but i know they are still being used. But, i do agree alot of people dont use them because now a days there is facebook and twitter and plenty of other sites to use for social networking.

I wonder what people are using as chat line replacements these days? Certainly, I don't see how a platform like Twitter or the format in which Skype is set up, could be a replacement. But maybe I'm wrong? I tried to get on My Telespace, but it said there were no slots available or something like that. And I never bothered to check back.

Yes, there are lots of different lines for differing interest. I actually use to moderate a line for gay males, it probably was the best job ever lol! As long as they are properly managed and not abused I think they are good

My telespace: 832-999-8600. Also, each week the Ziegler has a list of chat lines listed in special notices, I believe, permanent listings. Ziegler is read on nfb news line under magazines, blindness specific.

The only ones I ever call these days are the old Studio55 lines.

I loved e voice and actually met a bunch of nice people on there. Since I graduated high school though, I just never got in to them any more.

Whoops. I made a mistake. Ziegler this week and maybe other weeks have a separate section just for the chat line list; option 11. Sorry for the mistake.

I still hear commercials, on late-night tv, for pay-to-play chat lines; I'm guessing they're phone sex, based on when, where, and how they're presented. Evoice was fun while it lasted, though I don't miss it. Back when I was more chatty, I tended to prefer irc to the phone.

I was on EVoice a lot. There was another one, it was up for less than a year. I think it was called Phone Chat, and I used to have a blast on there.

Twitter can be chatty, if you're righ the right people. Anyone ever use chatroulette or omegle? I've tried the latter; don't like it much. My experience has mostly been "no cammie, no chattie"; LOL; or they disappear if you don't respond with your a/s/l immediately. A youtuber I follow loves his chatroulette.

used to go on the conversation station myself, but old boring people. ugggg! no thank you! And mind you I talk to a lot of older folks, these were just stale...

but chat lines? just... can't... do... it... not at all! *shivers* They bother me a lot! I am much more in to mainstream society!

I also think some people just want to own one, another reason there is a lot. when I was still 17 I owned one because dad didn't let me use computer social networking. I used it as my private rooms to chat to people.

I can't stand mytelespace even more than other chat lines. That place was downright depressing and just... no...

I've rejoined Telespace, mainly out of curiosity but also to reconnect with a few people I'd lost touch with. Because they delete boxes over there due to inactivity, I'm sure I won't be there for long; plus, there isn't much to hold my interest once I get the contact info of the people I'm trying to connect with.
